Social Media Touching Lives..

The World Wide Web was born in 1995 and two years later, news websites followed suit. But it was not until the mid-2000s that social media sites such as MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Digg and a dozen others were the trend. These social media sites are not just source of get-togetherness and hangout pit stops but they are also one’s virtual connection to just about anything under the sun. Think of the tremendous application social media offer.
  1. Source of News:– In the past, we only regard sites such as CNN.com, usatoday.com and few other sites as our source of online news. With social media sites such as twitter, facebook.. we can now get our news all in one page. Just subscribe online news sites and link it to your twitter page and voila! You can have updates every time you click on your twitter page from all of these news sites that you had bookmarked.

  2. Doing Business Online:- Before 2005, business models were highly traditional. Then came Amazon.com (totally shopping or Business Site), whose business pattern is imitated by hundreds of online business sites. Then came social media as a platform for businessmen. You may employ various online methods to promote your business site including social media sites. you can just link these social media sites with your website. What’s even better is that if you don’t want to buy your own domain, then you may use your blogger or Multiply account as a platform of your business on the Web.

  3. Meeting Friends:- This is one of the safer way to meet new friends online – through social media groups. There’s virtually a group for everybody on Facebook for instance: there’s a group for Catholics, for hippies, for Russians, for naturists, even for UFO existence theorists.

What Is Social Media Optimization ?

If search engine optimization is about breaking down crawling barriers to help the engines fully index your site, social media optimization is about knocking down site walls so content can be easily found, distributed and shared by the community. This process may simply mean embedding a "Digg This" button on your site blog or it may mean spending hours to create a piece of compelling content, aka linkbait, that could either drive thousands of visitors to your site or have no effect at all.

The right link magnet, presented at the right time, to the right audience can bring an unimaginable amount of traffic to your site. For a company just starting out, getting on the front page of Digg can offer instant visibility and credibility. For an establish company, it can strengthen your brand and turn you into a household name. The key to social media is knowing how to leverage it. And your ability to leverage it depends on your ability to attract, engage and convert new visitors.

Reaching out to social communities to bring attention your brand isn't a new concept; however, thanks to today's technology, when done right, the power, effect and benefit of social media optimization is huge. In a recent article entitled Anatomy of a Super Digg, Daniel Tynski shared his company's experience with a client who spent ten minutes creating a throwaway article specifically targeted towards social media. The article was submitted to Digg and in 7 days the client was rewarded with more than 3,000 backlinks, 532 links from del.icio.us, an enormous swell in Alexa rankings, and an impressive (though temporary) surge in rankings for many of the client's targeted keywords.
